This photo essay book entitled “Sustainable Forest Management: Reflections on Over a Decade of Indigenous Karen Community Forests” documents the story of three Indigenous Karen communities: Paw Ghe Kee in Doo Tha Htoo District, Lae Kee in Mutraw District, and Htee The Blu in Dooplaya District. The book shares about their way of life, traditional knowledge of sustainability, management, and conservation of their forests and biodiversity.
By publishing this photo essay book, our goal is to strengthen and promote Indigenous Karen peoples’ knowledge in sustainable forest management and improve the quality of forest conditions which can positively contribute to social inclusion in decision making. Strengthening environmental protection, cultural preservation, ecological integrity, economic benefits, and effective governance by both communities and local governance bodies can contribute to cementing genuine and lasting peace in Burma.
