Community forest ranger program
The community forest ranger initiation is pilot collaboration program between Indigenous Karen people and Kawthoolei Forestry Department (KFD) to strengthen and stretch-out forest and wildlife governance in both Indigenous Karen customary territory and forest or wildlife sanctuary under KFD management in the Salween Peace Park, Mutraw District, Karen State. It is because the endangered wildlife species are also found in the territory that managed by indigenous people which is outside of the reserved forest.
The community forest rangers will uphold the Indigenous Karen way of hunting and the use of forest resources in the Salween Peace Park. The community forest ranger activities include forest petrol, wildlife research, identify problems that arise in the forest, awareness raising, and reporting to Mutraw District KFD and relevant village leaders.
