Karen, English, Burmese:
A case study analyzing forest cover change in the Thawthi Taw-Oo Indigenous Park (TTIP) was conducted in August 2022. Open-source time series data of tree canopy percentage and annual forest loss data from 2000 to 2021 were used to analyze forest cover over six different periods [2000 – 2012, 2005 – 2012, 2010 – 2012, 2012 – 2015, 2012 – 2020, 2012 – 2021].
Additionally, temporal and spatial change analyses were performed based on five regions of interest (Wildlife Sanctuary, Reserve Forest, Community Forest, Kaw, and the Whole Area of TTIP), using GIS (ArcGIS software). Ground truthing was successfully conducted, yielding accuracies of 0.8 for Forest Loss and 0.9 for Tree Canopy.
The overall overview of TTIP revealed that the highest proportion of forest loss was found in the Reserve Forest (RF), likely due to its larger area compared to others. This was followed by Kaw, Community Forest (CF), and Wildlife Sanctuary (WF). Conversely, Tree Canopy classes indicated closer or denser tree canopy classes for the remaining existing forest.
