This training manual is a basic guide for local communities to have a better understanding of climate change and interrelated issues. This training manual is structured into five important chapters, and the first chapter introduces the differences between climate and weather, greenhouse effect and GHGs, carbon cycle, ecological footprint, global warming, and overview of Burma’s climate change. The second chapter of the manual covers climate change and its consequences, in particular negative impacts on biodiversity, health, water resources, and food security.
In the third chapter, it introduces the role of the international community in addressing climate change crisis; for instance, the United Nations (UN), INGOs, and governments’ strategies, agreements, and programs in tackling climate change programs.
In the fourth chapter of the manual, it discusses about climate change and Indigenous Peoples, the negative impacts that they have endured, their coping strategies, including mitigation, adaptive and resilience capacities in combating climatic hazards. A case study that highlights the Salween Peace Park and land and forest governance in Kawthoolei is also included in this section.
The last chapter of the training manual presents some of the solutions to address climate change crisis at individual capacity as well as community as a whole and they include renewable energy, reforestation (including the establishment of community forest), community rice bank, education program, and international cooperation. After each chapter, there are participatory group works/exercises are also included.
